About Us
TheraFlow was founded to provide physical therapy care with a special interest in treating lymphedema and swelling disorders. We recognize that many patients—especially those living with lymphedema, chronic swelling, pain, or mobility limitations—often struggle to find the attention and specialized expertise they deserve. Lymphatic care is our passion, and TheraFlow exists to provide the best evidence-based physical therapy with personalized treatment plans tailored to each individual's goals. While we do specialize in lymphedema care, that is not the extent of our practice! We are also fully equipped to evaluate and treat the full range of conditions commonly seen in general physical therapy practice, ensuring comprehensive care for all patients. What is Complete Decongestive Therapy?
The lymphatic system is a vital body system that works alongside the circulatory system to maintain fluid balance. Lymph vessels are present throughout the body and collect excess fluid from the interstitial spaces to return it to systemic circulation. Lymph nodes are present throughout these lymphatic pathways, serving as filtering stations for our immune system. This lymph fluid consists of water, electrolytes, immune cells, and protein molecules. Protein molecules are larger in comparison to other cells and tend to act like sponges, resulting in further buildup of fluid.
Chronic accumulation of this protein rich fluid outside of the lymphatic and circulatory systems can lead to persistent swelling, inflammation, tissue fibrosis, and progressive impairment of normal tissue function known as lymphedema. Lymphedema is a complex, progressive disease process resulting from a compromised lymphatic system or the inability of a healthy system to handle excess fluid resulting from another cause, such as surgery or venous insufficiency.
Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) is an evidence-based, specialized treatment provided by Certified Lymphedema Therapists to help manage lymphedema and chronic swelling. CDT consists of four major components that all work together to help reduce swelling, improve mobility, reduce pain, and improve comfort and quality of life.

MLD is a gentle, hands-on technique that helps to stimulate the body’s lymphatic system to encourage fluid mobility towards healthy lymphatic pathways where it can be reabsorbed and processed.

Compression garments and bandaging are crucial in minimizing fluid reaccumulating between treatments. Our therapists will take measurements and work with garment manufacturers and DME providers to help find the best compression solutions for you.

While most patients can begin physical therapy right away, some insurance plans may still require a physician referral for coverage, and Tennessee law requires your physical therapist to communicate with your healthcare provider if treatment extends beyond certain timeframes.
